Obesity takes away a number of years from the life of a patient not unlike smoking or alcoholism. It also has various side effects associated with it in terms of health risks. A child could also suffer from birth defects due to the obesity of the mother. Both, obese women and men might suffer from infertility due to obesity.
Obesity also affects the person at a psychological level. One of the major side effects of obesity in this regard is depression. Also, as a result of obesity the social life of a person suffers and many of them have to face disapproval from the society in general aggravating their depression.
Many of the major side effects of obesity are orthopedic in nature. One of them is osteoarthritis. Obese persons suffer from poor mobility and many of them also experience lower back pain.
As can be seen, the side effects of obesity are all very serious. You could pick one or two minor side effects of obesity with respect to those that are not as serious as the rest. But there is no doubt that all of them must be treated on an immediate basis.
